What Drives You Drives Your Business

Welcome to the Premiere Issue of The Unstoppable Entrepreneur

Read Time: 3 minutes

I will be sharing things I have learned as an entrepreneur growing multiple businesses to 9 figure success. Each issue will take less than 5 minutes to read and deliver perspective to help you grow.

Let’s jump into it.

What Drives You Drives Your Business

Cultivating awareness of your own personal needs is a large part of being a successful entrepreneur.

Yes, personal needs. Not business needs. No matter how you define them.

Most of us follow the same patterns every day. We create many of those patterns to protect ourselves because our underlying need is safety. Even as entrepreneurs, known for our ability to tolerate risk, we’ll keep on following the rules others have set for us: best practices, popular habits, or stuff we learned from our parents. The ability to be good at following the rules, especially those tied to “success” has become a key survival skill, so it is not a surprise that we work this way.

In following these habits, we rarely move towards daily activities that are actually satisfying.

In fact, our personal life patterns don’t always get recognized. Not unless we have a certain measurable goal in mind, like finishing a marathon. These patterns are invisible unless we create a way to see them, to take the time we need to become more aware of them. And, because we’re scared of letting go of our habits, we let fear take control, especially our fear of the unknown.

But what if we went in the opposite direction?

What if we set aside best practices altogether, and, instead, asked ourselves what make us feel good?

What if we don’t hold back from actually doing the things that make us happy and fulfilled?

All that fear can go away when we recognize the fundamental value in creating a Best Day Ever plan.

Let’s talk about the word Best for a moment. What does it mean? If we look at leaders, or the people in the world that we believe are the Best, and try to follow the path that they have taken in life, then we’re kind of missing the point. We don't know anything about the life or experience of the average business leader or life coach or guru, and we don’t really know why they’ve created that path for themselves. Maybe that’s not the Best thing. Maybe it’s just their thing.

What we do know is what is Best for each of us.

And what I also know, based on my own entrepreneurial experience, is what is Best for me is also Best for my business.

Hear me out.

If you could get up in the morning and have a day that was absolutely wonderful, what would it look like? How could you begin to add some of those moments into your life literally tomorrow? Follow your curiosity to understand what drives you and what makes your day actually work for you. Your best day may start with exercise or reading a book; a great cup of coffee or a glass of water; getting your hair done or taking a walk out to meet the sunrise.

The point of all of this is that if you know that you’re allowed to feel a sense of joy in your life, you’re putting yourself in the right frame of mind to work.

Think about it for a moment.

If you feel calm and fulfilled from the moment you begin your day, how do you think you will interact with others? How able will you be to come up with new, fruitful ideas with your team? How relaxed might you be in dealing with a sudden crisis?

When you don’t front-end your own personal support and your own happiness, then what happens? Negative emotions. A lack of ability to concentrate. Stress and burnout. At the very least, you’ll end up spending all of your limited spare time comforting and soothing yourself at the end of a hard day rather than enjoying what you’ve accomplished.

If you’re aiming to be an entrepreneur, you owe it to yourself and your team, as well as your family, to take care of you. Until you feel energized and available, your success as a business owner will be limited.

And remember, what is Best for you can change. Life can just feel hard. Sometimes life is hard. We do our best whatever that is in any given moment but know that your Best today could look very different from Best tomorrow. You’re allowed to switch it up. You don’t have to create lifetime habits to be happy in life.

So what does your personal Best Day Ever Plan look like?

Better yet, what does it feel like?

What are you going to choose to try out first?

What drives you, and you alone, drives your potential for success. So start with you.

I hope you enjoyed the read and are ready to start drafting your Best Day Ever plan.

Until next time.
